Steve,
I read an old thread from last year where you said you work on FPS games. Man, I've been playing quake3 online for a couple of years now and go to the official quake3world site all the time. Do you play that? If so, wanna 1v1? I don't mind high pings. By the way, do you happen to know when doom 3 is finally being released? Last I heard was march or april.

The only official release date for Doom3 is "when it's done." (that I can reveal)

Games teach what schools don't; how to use the skills developed in one's progressive education. As video games require 100% undivided attention, they are necessary to foster creative and attentive skills. The most important lesson you can learn in video games is how to lose, at least for me. [Sarcasm]I'm a big loser, and without video games I doubt I could have ever become the loser that I am today[/Sarcasm].
Parents think the attraction is the blood and gore and the graphics, and the politicians would like them to think that so they can pretend they give a damn about their children by railing against media violence [and not doing a damn thing about it because they know any law they put out will get struck down]. But that's just eye candy; people play these games because of the gameplay and the skill required to play them. A visually appealing game that does not play well will not sell. PERIOD.
Video games can be good for you, if done in moderation, just like everything else. The game Starcraft: Brood War helped me build my focus and concentration (you have to be extremely fast on your feet in that game!), and it also helped teach me how to be a fair player and not take it too personally if I lose. Because you DO lose a lot in that game if you're not quick enough. So yeah, I'd believe it.
I must admit tho, if not for video games, I wouldn't have some good hand-eye, patience, diligence and the ability to memorize complicated sequences and formations!.
